The art displayed in the Bailey-Boushay House is the result of recommendations from the original Bailey-Boushay House Arts Committee, a group of Seattle-area artists. The group's task was to define and direct how art would interact within Bailey-Boushay House. It became apparent that no one artist could represent all the possibilities for art in the facility. The plan was changed and 144 artists were invited to participate in the "niche art project" and out of that 25 were selected. The niches or 'treasure spaces' were initially conceived to provide a creative, custom entry to each room.
